The Chicken sCoop
1/29/2008
Hello and Happy New Year! Not much has
happened with Chicken Coop lately. Unfortunately my attempts at getting the word
out have had little success -- that or people do not really care for the game (although
all the feedback I have received has been very positive). Anyway, I still consider
the project a success. I had a lot of fun and learned a great deal. In the meantime
I created a simple little word game that came to me one night. Nothing special but I think
it is pretty fun. Obviously it is short on features but I thought I would share it anyway.
The name of the game is MadVocab and the goal is to score as many points as possible. You
get points for dragging and dropping letters from the letter bank onto the grid to make words
horizontally. You get 2pts for a 3 letter word, 4pts for a 4 letter word, 8pts for
a 5 letter word and so on. Words made vertically in the grid count for double points, but they
are only valid if the letters that make up the vertical word are part of a valid horizontal word.
Make sense? My high score is 313 pts on a 7x7 grid (screenshot).
If you beat that score, or come close, take a screenshot and email it to me, I'd love to see it.
A couple other quick notes about the game: the "cheat" menu in the game just shows you the random words that were used to seed
your letter bank. Right-clicking on a letter in the grid will return that letter to
the letter bank (or you can drag it back). Finally, I've deployed the game as an .xbap application (apparently easily installed games is
not one of my strong suits) -- so you'll need .NET 3.5 and it will only work in IE. Hopefully that will not
stop you from trying it. Without further ado, you can play MadVocab here.

Okay, I think I have the game at the
point now where I am ready to invite a larger audience to come get
Coopified. Over the next few days I will be sending emails and making
posts to try and generate some traffic. If you are visiting this site
for the first time, Welcome! I hope you enjoy playing Chicken Coop and
would love to hear your feedback.

Well, it'd be a lie to call the beta testing period a complete success... apparently the friends I invited are complete slackers (or not slack enough, depending on your perspective). At any rate, some people did indulge me and play it, and the feedback I've gotten has been extremely positive (yippee!). Thank you to all those who took the time to play and give me a feedback. As a result I'm currently working on some changes. I expect to have the next version, which I guess I'll call the official release (maybe), ready by the end of the month (if not sooner). Some of the things I'm working on: fixing the egg/inventory size issue (in general people feel the world is too small); making it easier to view the authors solution once you've completed a level; storing your solutions so you can easily view them at a later date; moving where levels are stored so the game doesn't forget levels you've completed/downloaded each time you get a new version; some other stuff.

Welcome beta testers! Thank you friends for taking the time to check
out this site and my game. Please give it a try and let me know what
you think!

This site is
currently under development but progress on the worlds most dangerous
game (for chickens) is ahead of schedule. My best guess would be T-minus a couple
days before I invite the first beta testers to become Coop-ified.
If
you accidentally got lost and somehow ended up on this page, email me
at chiefchicken@blankscream.com.
